Our Journey: We started in 2017, when our founder, Claire Hughes, had enough of the plastic problem in the Cayman Islands and decided to do something about it. With a small group of dedicated volunteers passionate about protecting our beautiful island, Plastic Free Cayman was born. We began hosting monthly cleanup events, visited schools to educate students, and went to local businesses to discuss the importance of their daily decisions, how plastic consumption can be reduced, and how we can all live more sustainably.
To date, our incredible volunteers have collected over 10,000lbs of trash from the beaches of the Cayman Islands! Significantly helping the health of our environment and marine ecosystems.
We are so grateful to everyone who has supported our mission through the years, and we are excited to continue to make a difference in the future. We are working with the Cayman Islands Government, encouraging them to implement a plastic ban which will align us with many other countries across the globe that have implemented plastic bans and encouraged their populations to go plastic free.
